SEPTOPLASTY(2)
Normal recovery
Some slightly blood stained discharge from the nose is quite common for a few weeks after the procedure. Nasal blockage may be a problem after the operation and the final result may not be apparent until all healing has taken place over a period of several months. Pain is not usually a problem but simple pain killers such as Paracetomol may be required.
What to look out for................
Severe pain, frank bleeding from the nose, fever and heavy discharge from the nose are unusual and should be reported to me on the above number. Readmission with such problems is very rare after septoplasty.
Longer term potential complications include failure of the operation to resolve the nasal obstruction and collapse of the nasal septum if large amounts of cartilage have to be removed. This very rarely leads to a small hole in the septum which can whistle and bleed or occasionally can give rise to a minor change in the external appearance of the nose.
If you are ill admission to the Royal Berkshire Hospital under my care may be necessary.
